Bangladesh will be sending its first vessel to India under a coastal shipping agreement on Thursday.

Neepa Paribahan’s ship MV Harbour-1 will leave Chittagong Port for India’s Krishnapatnam Port carrying containers on the day.
It is expected to reach Krishnapatnam on Mar 22 and depart for Bangladesh, carrying cotton and textiles, the following day.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, among others, was present at a programme to mark the event in Chittagong on Tuesday.
“The idea of a sub-regional grouping between Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Bhutan is getting shape through this coastal shipping,” he said.
He also said Bangladesh and the Indian state of Tripura would get connected once a bridge was built on the Feni River.
“It will establish road connection between Tripura and the other Indian states. It will also be possible to transport goods between Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Bhutan,” he added.
The two countries signed the coastal shipping deal during India Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bangladesh visit last year.
