The government has appointed two new deputy governors to Bangladesh Bank based on the recommendations of the search committee.
On Sunday, the Financial Institutions Department of the finance ministry issued a notification naming Zakir Hossain Chowdhury and Md Kabir Ahmed, both bank executive directors, as the new deputy governors.
According to the notification, both officials have been appointed for a three-year contract starting from the date they assume office, conditional upon their voluntary retirement from their current roles and suspension of post-retirement leave.
Following the collapse of the Sheikh Hasina government, unrest gripped Bangladesh Bank, the regulator of the financial sector.
Bank officials staged protests, demanding the resignation of Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder and the four deputy governors.
Talukder resigned on Aug 9 and Deputy Governor-1 Kazi Sayedur Rahman, along with Deputy Governor-3 Khurshid Alam, stepped down on Aug 12.
Two other top officials of the central bank also resigned around the same time.
