Kushtia man sentenced to life in prison for murder

A Kushtia court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of a woman who worked at a local clinic.

Kushtia District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Arup Kumar Goswami announced the verdict on Wednesday in the presence of the accused Sohail Rana, 35.

The court imposed an additional six months to the sentence due to Sohel’s failure to pay a fine of Tk 20,000 fine, said Anup Kumar Nandi, the state prosecutor.

According to the case, Sohel strangled Sheuli to death on Jul 18, 2017, at the Kushtia Government College fields after she ended their romantic relationship. 

Sheuli’s younger brother Md Shimul filed a murder case with Kushtia Model Police against unidentified assailants. 

Kushtia Model Police Inspector Sanjay Kumar Kundu submitted a charge sheet against Sohel on Oct 8, 2017 and the trial proceedings began soon after.
