“We’ll continue to stand firmly with Bangladesh in finding a satisfactory solution to the crisis which originates in Myanmar,” she said at the ‘Europe Day’ reception on Sunday.

Ministers, politicians of different parties, diplomats, academic, businessmen, and representatives of different NGOs attended the reception with Planning Minister Abdul Mannan as chief guest.

The Europe Day is celebrated each year to commemorate the 1950 Declaration of the then French foreign minister Robert Schuman who proposed the pooling of French and West German coal and steel industries, leading to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community.

That idea was the beginning of what is now the European Union, which is united for peace and prosperity.

The ambassador said in today’s world, the EU is more indispensable than ever.

She said Bangladesh is a “very important” EU partner in Asia.

The planning minister thanked the EU for the duty, quota-free market access for Bangladeshi products and said that helped Bangladesh to grow to the present status of a lower middle income country.

He also sought the EU’s support to solve the Rohingya crisis.
