Four injured as storm upends tree on car in Dhaka’s Dhamrai

Gusty winds have uprooted a tree on a car on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Dhamrai, leaving four people injured during a storm.

The accident occurred at Barbarhia area on the outskirts of the capital on Friday afternoon, Golra Highway Police Station Inspector Lutfar Rahman said.

The injured are Intaz Uddin, 45, his wife Naznin Sultana, 40, daughter Himu Akter, 19, and driver Shawkat Ali, 55.

The family were on their way to their ancestral home in Manikganj when the tree crushed the car, Manikganj Fire Service and Civil Defence official ‘Parimal’ said.  

They were given treatment at Manikganj General Hospital, but driver Shjawkat was later transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition turned ‘critical’, the fire service official said. 

Traffic on the highway was hampered for some time following the accident before the tree was removed, inspector Lutfar said.
