Nuzhatul Hasan, editor of Student Journal BD, an online news outlet, filed the case with Ramna Police Station on Tuesday after taking permission from the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka.

The court granted the appeal of the journalist and asked the chief of the police station to submit a report related to the allegation by June 16.

Shomi Kaiser was a guest in the inaugural ceremony of an e-commerce based tourism site ‘Bindu 365’ on Apr 24 at the National Press Club in Dhaka.

She could not find her two smartphones after delivering her speech.

Around 50 journalists were held inside closing the main exit of the auditorium and her bodyguards searched the bags of several reporters for about 10 minutes.

Tension brewed up when some of the reporters protested and wanted to leave the venue.

Later, a young man was suspected to be responsible analysing the camera footage from different television channels but he could not be detained yet.

The actress apologised for the inconvenience caused to the journalists.

In his case, Nuzhat alleged that Shomi Kaiser defamed the journalists by calling them ‘thieves’.

An offspring of a martyred intellectual, Shomi rose to fame as an actress and at present she is the president of E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh and also a director of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry or FBCCI, the apex trade body of Bangladesh.
