A well-marked low over the southern Bay of Bengal depression has turned into a depression and may intensify further into a cyclone on Saturday, senior meteorologist Khondkar Hafizur Rahman told bdnews24.com on Friday.

Bangladesh Meteorological Department has asked the maritime ports to hoist distant cautionary signal No. 1 as the depression is likely to head towards the Odisha coasts in India.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north bay and deep sea have been advised not to venture into the deep sea.

Rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions and at one or two places over Khulna, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and the region of Cumilla with hails at isolated places.

Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

The maximum temperature in Bangladesh on Friday was recorded 37 degrees Celsius in Rangamati as a heat wave continues to scorch the country for three days.

In Dhaka, mercury rose as high as to 36.2 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office says the temperature started to drop slightly on Friday afternoon after hitting 38 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

Mild heat wave is sweeping over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and it may abate from some places over the country, the Met Office said in weather forecast.

Day temperature may fall slightly and night temperature may rise slightly over the country, it added.
