The incident occurred at Noudagram in Moheshpur's municipal area on Thursday night, said Moheshpur Police OC Rashedul Alam.

The dead are Marzina Khatun and her 70-year-old mother Shamsun Nahar.

Police are searching for Marzina's son Imran, 26, a labratory assistant at Moheshpur Girls' High School.

He approached his mother at night for some money, OC Rashedul told bdnews24.com. After his request was turned down, Imran used a sharp weapon to wound his mother an grandmother.

The two women died in the Jashore Sadar Hospital in the early hours of Friday morning, said the OC.

"Imran is mentally unstable. He had previously been admitted to the Pabna Mental Hospital for treatment," he said.

But locals said that Imran is a drug user. He would often assault his mother when she denied him money.

The latest incident was also triggered by her refusal to give Imran money, according to the locals.
