A three-member panel of the International Crimes Tribunal led by Justice Shahinur Islam announced the verdict on Wednesday.

The two convicts are Sohrab Ali alias Chhorap and Hedayet Ullah alias Anju BSC.

The jailed Chhorap was in court when the sentence was passed but Anju remains at large.

They had joined the ‘Shanti (Peace) Committee’ and ‘Razakar’ forces formed to assist the Pakistan army and committed several crimes against humanity in Atpara’s Madhuakhali, Mobarokpur and Shukhari villages and Madan Thana’s Madan village, according to the case.

The court in its 218-page judgment said that the prosecution proved all six of the charges brought against the suspects beyond any doubt.

Of these, the convicts were given the maximum penalty on three of the charges. They received 10-year prison sentences on each of the other three charges.
