The latest arrestees, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, 21, and Imran Hossain, 22, are among the suspected plotters of the fatal arson attack on Nusrat, police said.

Rana was arrested in Rangamati town’s T&T Residential Area early on Saturday morning, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Moin Uddin at Police Bureau of Investigation or PBI told bdnews24.com.

The law enforcers arrested Imran in Cumilla on the same day, according to PBI Special Superintendent of Police Md Iqbal.

Rana from Charganesh in Feni’s Sonagazi fled after the attack on Nusrat on Apr 6. The 18-year-old died five days later.

Assailants tricked her onto the rooftop when the Alim candidate went to the madrasa on that day to sit for exams.

They set her on fire as she refused to withdraw sexual abuse charges against principal SM Siraj-ud-Daula.

Arrested on the sexual harassment allegations on Mar 27, Siraj orchestrated the killing from jail, police said.

His follower and madrasa student Nur Uddin met him in jail on Apr 4 and then plotted the attack on the following day in a meeting with students  Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Jabed Hossain, Abdul Quader and some other people, police had earlier said but had not disclosed the name of the other people.

Now Rana and Imran have been arrested. PBI’s Moinuddin said Rana was sent to Feni earlier on Saturday and would be produced in the court on Sunday.
