The dead has been identified as Bisharat Ali, a resident of Shibganj Upazila's Tarapur Chawkpara.

Locals allege that he was gunned down by India's Border Security Forces, or BSF. But the BSF has rejected the allegations.

Locals discovered the body in the Upazila's Masudpur area on Saturday morning, said Lt Col Sajjad Sarwar, captain of BGB 51 Battalion in Chapainawabganj.

According to them, Bisharat was shot and killed by the BSF on Friday night.

But the BGB official said, "The body was found in Bangladeshi territory, nearly 1 kilometer away from the border with India. Bisharat was shot dead. But we are yet to identify the assailants."

"We spoke to the BSF over the phone regarding the incident. They have denied responsibility for the shooting," he added.

Locals said that Bisharat was shot down by the BSF when he attempted to cross into India to bring back some cattle.
