Police say they have considered recent violent incidents in different countries, including the mosque shootings in New Zealand, and Mar 26 Independence Day to beef up security in the areas.

The number of check posts in the areas has been raised since early Sunday morning.

Law enforcers were checking vehicles at the posts.

The hotels have been asked to keep their surveillance cameras rolling and inform police about their guests.

Surveillance surrounding the clubs and foreign missions has also been heightened, Gulshan Police Station OC Abdu Bakr Siddique said.

Besides the check posts, additional plainclothesmen have been posted in the area, OC Siddique said.

“We’ve taken additional measures alongside routine security after the terrorist attack in New Zealand,” Moshtaque Ahmed, a deputy commissioner at Dhaka Metrpolitan Police, told bdnews24.com.

A suspected white supremacist gunman shot 50 Muslims dead in an attack on two mosques in Christchurch on Mar 15.

On Saturday, gunmen killed at least 134 Fulani herders in central Mali, the deadliest such attack of recent times in a region reeling from worsening ethnic and jihadist violence.
