Voting suspended at Katiadi after proof of ballot stuffing found

Voting at all centres in Kishoreganj’s Katiadi Upazila has been suspended because of ballot stuffing the night before the polls.

The Election Commission has given instructions for the withdrawal of the district’s additional superintendent of police and the Katiadi OC in response. 

Polling began in the third phase of Upazila Parishad elections at 8am on Sunday in 117 upazilas across the country including Katiadi.   

Allegations were made that ballot boxes were stuffed on Sunday night ahead of the election, said Kishoreganj District Election Officer and upazila election Returning Officer Md Tajul Islam

“Orders were given to suspend voting at the 89 polling stations of Katiadi Upazila at 10am on Sunday after the allegations were proven true.”

District Additional Superintendent of Police Md Shafiqul Islam and Katiadi Police Station OC Md Shamsuddin were instructed to withdraw because of their involvement in irregularities, said the returning officer.
