PDB officials handed the Mitsubishi Pajero to the Anti-Corruption Commission or ACC on Tuesday after the seizure of a car similarly used by another former staffer of the board.

Jahirul Islam Chowdhury, a former assistant accountant and president of the board’s council of collective bargaining agents or CBA, was the user of the car recovered on Tuesday.

The class-three employee of the board retired in June last year. The registration number of the car he was using is Sylhet Metro Gha- 02-0033.

ACC Director General Munir Chowdhury said they launched a drive two days ago to recover vehicles from the government pool being used by PDB employees illegally.

The ACC seized another Pajero being used by Alauddin Mia, another of the board’s former employees, illegally for 10 years on Monday.

The anti-graft watchdog later handed the vehicle to PDB and asked the board to use it properly, according to ACC Secretary Md Dilwar Bakth.

Alauddin was a former general secretary of the PDB’s CBA. He retired as stenotypist of PDB’s planning and inspection department in August 2017.

Those responsible for allowing the former employees to use vehicles from government pool will face action after investigation, ACC DG Munir said.

On Monday, Munir said Alauddin caused the state exchequer no less than Tk 7 million in losses as the government had to pay refuelling cost and driver’s salary since 2009.
