The ambassador made the statement during a visit to the prime minister’s Ganabhaban residence on Monday, said Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Ihsanul Karim.

Miller had similar remarks during a call on the chief election commissioner’s office on Oct 11 after his assignment as the US envoy to Dhaka.

Apart from the Dec 30 election, various issues - including the Rohingya crisis and mutual relationship between the US and Bangladesh - were discussed in the meeting, said Karim.

Millar informed the prime minister that his country will send 32 observers to monitor Bangladesh’s upcoming national polls.

He also highlighted Rohingya issues and urged Myanmar to create an appropriate atmosphere in Rakhine for the refugees to return to their own homeland.

He also promised to maintain US support for the Rohingyas to overcome the crisis.
