According to the family, he breathed his last at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka at 10:25am on Sunday.

He was 92 years old.

He had been Bangladesh’s oldest surviving armed forces officer until his death.

Syed Azizur Rahman had initially joined the navy but was commissioned to the air force in 1947.

He graduated from the UK Royal Air Force Academy in 1952.

He served the Bangladesh Air Force and became air secretary before retiring in 1978.

A funeral service was held at the Old Banani DOHS mosque and a second has been arranged by the Bangladesh Air Force at the BAF Shaheen Mosque after Asr prayers.

The Air Force will also handle his burial at the BAF Shaheen Graveyard.

Rahman is survived by a son, three daughters and four grandchildren.

Azizur Rahman was also the brother-in-law of Nazmul Huda, the former minister who is running for the Dhaka-17 constituency (Gulshan, Banani, Cantonment) as an independent candidate under the lion symbol.

To everyone who knew him he was “a very simple, humble and nice person”, and will be missed by scores of his relatives, the family said of the former Air Force officer.
