They were hit by the overhead guarder while Khulna-bound Chitra Express train was crossing the hundred-year old Hardinge Bridge around 5am on Friday, according to the police.

“We retrieved two bodies under a pillar of the bridge. Another person named Ibrahim, 20, was recovered with them and has been taken to Upazila Health Complex,” Ishwardi Police Station chief Bahauddin Farooqi told bdnews24.com.

The five injured—Abdullah, Saju, Sumon, Shahabul and another man yet to be identified, were rescued from the other side of the river and were taken to the Kushtia General Hospital, said Bheramara Police Station OC Khandakar Shamim Uddin.

With Victory Day looming, hundreds of holidaymakers raced home on Thursday to enjoy the long weekend, according to the railway police.

Many passengers without having passes, clambered on top of the train carriages despite restrictions. On Friday, some passengers travelled atop of the Chitra Express too, officials said.
