Two BNP leaders detained on charges of ‘sabotage’ in Gazipur

The police have detained two BNP leaders on ‘charges’ of sabotage in Gazipur’s Sreepur ahead of the election.

Sreepur Police Station OC Jabedul Islam said they were detained on Thursday from a house in Bhangnahati village.

They detainees are -- Gazipur District BNP Vice President Humayun Kabir Sarker and Sreepur Upazila former BNP President Abdul Motaleb.

They are the joint conveners of the election management team for Jatiya Oikya Front candidate Iqbal Siddiqui in the Gazipur-3 constituency, according to the police.

“They were accused of sabotage and so they have been brought to the police station for interrogation," he added.

Iqbal Siddiqui alleged that the government is using the administration to detain the leaders and activists of his party to create panic.

He also said the top two leaders of the election management committee were detained without any arrest warrant or case against them.
