The institution’s governing body chief Golam Ashraf Talukder told bdnews24.com about the appointments on Friday night as protesting students took deferred exams earlier in the day.

Another group of protesters also demonstrated on Bailey Road earlier in the day demanding release of their sacked teacher Hasna Hena who has been arrested on charges of instigating ninth grader Aritry Adhikary to take her own life.

Ousted principal Nazneen Ferdous and morning shift in-charge Zinnat Akhtar are also accused in a case started by Aritry’s father Dilip Adhikary.

The three teachers humiliated the girl and her parents because she had taken her mobile phone to the exam hall, Dilip said. The teachers alleged she had cheated in the exam.

The death of the girl on Monday led to revelation of stories of controversial handling of students and guardians by the authorities and teachers, and many other irregularities.

Being one of the top institutions in Bangladesh, the death of the Viqarunnisa student also sparked protests by her peers, drew angry reactions on the social media and created a debate over the country’s entire education system.

Besides firing the teachers, the authorities deferred Wednesday and Thursday’s exams.

Later, the protesters, who also demand resignation of the governing body, called off the programmes after its chief Ashraf apologised and promised steps to meet their demands.
