Quack doctor jailed after operating on patient in Gopalganj

A mobile court has sentenced a clinic owner to three months imprisonment for operating on a patient without a doctor’s licence.

The convict, Deshbondhu Biswas, 50, is the owner of the Shantilata Clinic and Diagnostic Centre in  Kotalipara Upazila.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer ASM Mahfuzur Rahman said, “Bithi Haldar, the wife of Bidhan Haldar, was admitted to the centre on Nov 9.”

“The clinic owner, Deshbondhu, operated on her. She was transferred to Khulna Medical College Hospital when her condition deteriorated. She is currently receiving treatment there. Her husband made a complaint over the incident.”

The clinic owner confessed to the crime on Friday during an interrogation, said Mahfuzur. “He was convicted and sentenced to three months in jail for operating on a patient without a doctor or a nurse being present.”

OC Mohammad Kamrul Faruk said that Biswas had been sent to jail.
