Two die as truck catches fire from power transmission line in Gazipur

Two men have been electrocuted to death after a dump truck came into contact with a 33-kV transmission line in Gazipur.

The incident took place on the Dhaka bypass road near Jhajar area in the municipality around 1:15am on Thursday, said Md Akhtaruzzaman, deputy director of Gazipur Fire Service Station. 

The dead have been identified as truck driver Rubel Mia, 30, and his assistant Jahangir Alam, 50. Both of them hailed from Bhola. 

“A dump truck was used to carry soil for the ongoing construction work at the site. The rear side of the truck hit the power transmission line during the offloading of soil,” said Akhtaruzzaman.

The tuck was electrified immediately and its tyres caught fire. The driver died on the spot and his assistant died on the way to hospital.

Firefighters from Joydebpur Fire Service Station brought the fire under control and took the bodies to Shaheed Tazuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital in Gazipur.
