Additional District and Sessions Judge Nurunnahar Begum Sheuly passed the verdict on Wednesday.

The convicts who received death penalty are Faruk Hossain, Abdur Rahman, Shaheed, Swapan and Rusel. All of them remained absconding.

Three local traders—Bachchu Miah, Uttam Kumar Debnath, and Parikshit Debnath—were killed on Jan 6, 2007 in the Laksam Upazila’s Sriang area. The muggers snatched Tk 1,420 from them, said Public Prosecutor Abu Taher citing the case.

Kabir Hossain, brother of Bachchu Miah, started the case against five suspects with Laksam Police Station.

Police pressed charges against them after the investigation.
