Madaripur speedboat accident: Bodies of three missing persons found

Rescuers have recovered the bodies of three people who went missing after their speedboat capsized on the Kathalbari-Shimulia marine route in Madaripur.

The bodies were found at various points on the Padma River around 11am on Monday, said Shibchor Police Station OC Zakir Hossain Molla.

The dead have been identified as Mirazul Islam Raju, 25, his wife Sadia Akhtar Lima, 18, and Fatema Akhtar, 8.

Mirazul was employed as a prison guard in Sirajganj.

A speedboat was headed from Shimulia to Kathalbaria on Sunday evening with 24 on board, OC Zakir said.

“The speedboat collided with a dump ferry in the middle of the river and capsized. A military patrol vessel managed to rescue 21 people, but three went missing.”

A search operation was conducted, but did not have any success until Monday morning, he added.
