Police identified him as Khorshed, chief of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh.

A group of miscreants attacked a police team on patrol around 1:30am on Tuesday in Shibganj Upazila, forcing police to fire back, said Sanatan Chakraborty, additional superintendent of Bogura police.

“After the gunfight, other miscreants fled and a man aged between 36 and 38 was found injured.”

The man died on his way to the hospital. Police later identified him as Khorshed.

Khorshed was the ameer of old terror outfit JMB, and was known as Master Samil in his inner circle, said Chakraborty.

Two police personnel, including Sub-Inspector Ahsan, were injured in the gunfight. Both of them have been admitted to hospital.

A pistol, a shotgun, three bullets and two machetes were recovered from the scene, according to the police.

The body was taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
