The prime minister made the promise while launching the long-awaited mobile number portability or MNP service for switching operators without having to change the number at a Ganabhaban event on Sunday.

“I have dedicated my present time to the young generation who will build the future of Bangladesh. Our time is almost over but now, as much as I am capable of doing, I have dedicated my time to the youth,” she said.

The prime minister also promised to take all possible measures to support the youth to keep pace with the changing world.

“I also urge them to be more attentive to their studies. They must also be habituated to the use of technology because it is changing continuously.”

“As long as the Awami League government remains in power we will take whatever measures are necessary to keep up with the changing world,” Hasina said.

The prime minister officially inaugurated the service on Sunday. The MNP service was launched commercially on Oct 1 on an experimental basis.

“It is another step for building a Digital Bangladesh. The technology of changing operators without changing the existing number is available in a limited number of countries in the world. We have entered a new era through the service.” Hasina said.

Subscribers will be able to switch operators by paying Tk 158 including fees, the SIM replacement tax and VAT under the service.
