BNP backer Zafrullah Chowdhury secures advance bail in two cases

The High Court has granted Gonoshasthaya Kendra trustee Zafrullah Chowdhury advance bail in two cases over illegally occupying land in Ashulia, vandalism and extortion.

The pro-BNP public health advocate appeared before the High Court on Sunday with a bail petition. 
 
Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Mohi Uddin Shamim accepted the bail petition.
 
Supreme Court Bar President Senior Advocate Zainul Abedin represented Zafrullah at the hearing. The court granted Zafrullah bail until the case reports were ready, Abedin told the media after the hearing.
 
Zafrullah, who has played an active role in forming the anti-government alliance between the BNP and Kamal Hossain, had recently faced criticism after make false statements regarding the army chief on a Somoy TV talk show. He is facing a sedition case in Dhaka over the remarks.
 
He faces two cases in Ashulia over illegal occupation of land and the other over extortion.
 
The two cases accuse Zafrullah and other Gonoshasthaya Kendra and Gono Bishwabidyalay officials of attempting to illegally occupy land and demanding Tk 10 million through extortion.  
 
One of them has been filed by a Manikganj resident named Mohammad Ali, while the other was filed by an individual, named Hassan Imam.
