“The Durga Puja exudes the message to uphold peace in the society through defeating the evil force. The evil force of ‘Asura’ still prevails; it just adopted a different shape over time,” said Hamid as he spoke at an event organised at Bangabhaban to celebrate the Durga Puja on Friday.

“The evil force against the spirits of the Liberation War repeatedly tried to obstruct the advancement of democracy and development in the country,” said Hamid as he mentioned obstacles to the building of a prosperous Bangladesh that the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had envisaged.

“The country is prospering. All of us, irrespective of religion or race, should prevent any evil activity to ensure the ongoing development. This should be today’s oath during the Durga Puja.”

“Durga Puja is not only a religious festival but a social one too. People from all races and religions enjoy the festivity during the puja. It deepens friendship and hence, it is a festival for all,” said Hamid as he greeted the members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Bijoya Dashami.

“Along with following the religious rituals, we have to come forward to ensure the welfare of others. Communal harmony is a tradition for Bangalees and we have to carry it forward together,” Hamid said.

President Hamid exchanged greetings with the Hindu community. First Lady Rashida Khanam was present on the occasion.

Leaders of Hindu Religious Welfare Trust, Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad and Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee exchanged greetings with the president.

Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla also met the president.
