He was shot to death at Bihar Para in Naniarchar Bazar area around 7pm on Wednesday, said Abdul Latif, chief of Naniarchar Police Station.

Police could not provide additional details about the killing.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Shanti Chakma alias Shanta, who was a resident of Bihar Para for a long time, according to the leaders and activists of UPDF. They could not provide further information about his family.

“Shanto was bathing on Wednesday evening at his residence when a group of perpetrators came, gunned him down, and fled,” said Mitan Chakma, office secretary of UPDF.

He blamed another group of UPDF, led by Prashanta Chakma, for the murder.

“This kind of allegation is baseless. We have no connection with the incident. It could be an internal feud of the UPDF,” said Niron Chakma, the spokesperson of the Prashanta group.
