Dhaka Division Special Judge’s Court Judge Mizanur Rahman Khan announced the verdict on Thrusday.
A warrant was issued for Rashid’s arrest because he was not in court to hear the verdict.
“Today he was to face justice,” Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer Mir Ahmed Ali Salam told bdnews24.com. “But he did not appear in court for the verdict.”
Rashid was found guilty of violating two sections of the anti-corruption law and sentenced to eight years in prison.
The two sentences will be served separately, the judge said.
On Mar 3, 2008 Mamunur Rashid, under orders from the ACC, showed that he and his family owned assets amounting to Tk 4,157,613.
But an ACC investigation found that he had Tk 110,390,675 in assets beyond known sources of income. ACC Assistant Director Helal Uddin Sharif filed the case against Rashid on Apr 15, 2009.
Rashid was represented by lawyer Shafiqur Rahman.
