Special Judge Md Akhtaruzzaman set the verdict date on Tuesday. The case was filed against the BNP chief by the Anti-Corruption Commission eight years ago.

The ACC had filed the corruption case with Tejgaon Police Station in 2010, accusing Khaleda and three others of embezzling Tk 31.54 million from the Zia Charitable Trust. The trial began at a makeshift court inside the Old Dhaka jailhouse.

Khaleda skipped court appearances citing her illness, prompting the judge to proceed with the trial in the absence of the key suspect.

The BNP chief was sent to jail on Feb 8 when the same judge sentenced her to five years in prison in a separate graft case involving the Zia Orphanage Trust.

Khaleda was transferred to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University on Oct 6 for her treatment after a High Court order.
