Suspected drug dealer killed in shootout with RAB in Munshiganj

A suspected drug dealer has been killed in an alleged shootout with RAB in Munshiganj’s Sadar Upazila.

The incident took place at Nagar Kasba Kathbagan in Mirkadim neighbourhood around 3:45am on Wednesday, said Muhitul Islam, assistant director of RAB-11.

The man has been identified as 45-year-old Abdul Malek, a resident of south Islampur area in Munshiganj town.

Malek, who was involved in illicit drug trade for long, was wanted in 11 cases on different charges, according to the RAB.

A RAB team raided Nagar Kasba Kathbagan area after receiving information of drug dealing. During the raid, the drug dealers opened fire on RAB and the elite force retaliated, Islam said.

 “One of the drug traders was found wounded while the others fled. He was taken to Munshiganj Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.”

Two RAB officials were also injured during the gunfight and received first aid. A shotgun, bullets, 800 yaba pills and Tk 2,500 were recovered on the scene, according to the RAB.
