Satkhira court sentences four men to death over 2016 murder
A Satkhira court has sentenced four men to death for killing a college student in 2016.

Satkhira District and Sessions Judge Sadikul Islam Talukder announced the verdict on Wednesday.
The convicts are Ali Ahmed Shawon, Shahadat Hossain, Saju Sheikh and Nazmul Hossain.
Shahadat and Nazmul were present in the court to hear the verdict while Shawon and Saju were at large.
Six more people accused in the case were acquitted of charges.
They are Omar Faruk, Noor Ahmed Mukta, Mohsin Ali, Kabirul Islam Mithu, Jamshed Ali and Firoza Khatun.
According to the case dossier, a college student, Goutam Sarker, was abducted in 2016 for Tk 1 million as a ransom, said lawyer Tapan Kumar Das, who represented the state.
The abductors then taped Goutam’s mouth, tied him with a bamboo and bricks and threw him into a pond, he said.
His father started a case against several suspects over the incident. Later police pressed charges against 10 people after the investigation.
