They are Abdul Awal alias Dalim, 30, ‘Faruq’, 27, ‘Kabir’, 27, Jahangir Alam, 24, ‘Bablu, 28, and ‘Selim’, 35.

The alleged incident occurred at the Jalsa Market on Sunday night, according to a case started by the mother of one of the girls against eight people.

The suspects were arrested in overnight drives on the market, and Patharghata and Alkoron areas, according to Md Mohsin, chief of Kotwali Police Station.

Police are looking for the two other accused – ‘Rubel’, 25, and ‘Enam’, 26, the OC said.

All the accused are owners and workers of different shops at the shopping mall.

Medical test and treatment have been arranged for the two girls, OC Mohsin said.

According to the case, one of the girls aged 17, who worked in a shop at the market, on Sunday brought one of her friends, who is one year younger to her, for a job interview at a clothing store at the mall.

A keeper of the shop, Dalim, and another shop owner, Selim, confined the two girls after accusing them of stealing a mobile phone.

They had first questioned them at the clothing store and later at Selim's shop.

"The accused people took them to the roof of the eighth floor and raped them," Inspector Kamruzzaman, who is investigating the alleged incident, said referring to the case.

"Relatives of the two girls looked for them as they did not return home. Later, with the help of members of Jalsa Market Association, they found the two girls on the roof around 10:30pm,” the inspector said.

Later, police took the girls to a hospital, he added.
