Dhaka South City Corporation enters Guinness World Records with cleanliness awareness event

Dhaka South City Corporation or DSCC has entered the Guinness World Records for its event to raise cleanliness awareness with most people sweeping the floor at a single venue.

Guinness World Records recognised the record and handed DSCC Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon the certificate on Monday, the city corporation’s spokesman Uttam Kumar Roy said.

A total of 7,021 people took part in the campaign on the Bangabandhu Avenue on Apr 13, according to Guinness World Record website.

The Guinness authorities count people in its own way using drones, satellites and live videos.

More than 30,000 registered for the event, ‘Dettol Clean Dhaka’, jointly organised by the city corporation and Reckitt Benckiser. Finally 15,313 took part in it, the DSCC had earlier said.

DSCC cleaners, officials and employees, members of different organisations, students, members of political parties, professionals and common people took part in the event wearing cap and mask and carrying broom. They were also given bracelets with barcodes.

The previous record of sweeping the floor by most people at a single venue belonged to Vadodara Municipality of Gujarat in India. As many as 5,058 people took part in the event on May 28 last year.
