Hasina, Modi exchange birthday greetings

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi have wished each other a happy birthday.

They inaugurated construction work of different projects through video conferencing on Tuesday.    

Hasina at the Ganabhaban in Dhaka greeted Modi, who was at his office in New Delhi, at the beginning of the programme.  

Modi, during his speech, greeted back Hasina in advance.

He described the opening of construction work of a cross-border pipeline to supply oil to Bangladesh from India as ‘the beginning of a new chapter’ in the relations between the two countries.

They also inaugurated construction of railway lines that are expected to ease travel between different routes in Bangladesh.

Modi’s birthday was on Monday while Hasina’s will be on Sept 28.

The Indian prime minister praised Hasina’s role in improving the ties.

Hasina thanked Modi for India’s cooperation in initiating the projects.

“I am sure that we will share more such joyous moments in the future for the greater good of our people,” she said.    

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj and India’s

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also spoke at the programme.
