Police arrest 24 activists of Chhatra Shibir in Chattogram

The police have arrested 24 activists and leaders of the Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami in Chattogram.

Police conducted raids in Chawkbazar, Bakalia, Double Mooring, and Patenga thana in the city on Friday night.

Police arrested 14 from Bakalia, eight from Double Mooring, and one each from Chawkbazar and Patenga.

No one was at the Shibir office at DC Road in Chawkbazar Thana that night, said the police.

“But we arrested one from Chawkbazar,” Chawkbazar Police Station chief Abul Kalam Azad told bdnews24.com.

Eight persons were arrested from the neighbourhood of Bank Colony, AKM Mohiuddin Selim, Officer-in-Charge of Doublemooring Police Station told bdnews24.com.

‘They include the Chhatra League thana wing President Morshedul Alam and General Secretary Towhidul Minhaz.”

The police arrested seven persons from Kala Miah Bazar and seven from Rasulbagh who were accused of attempting to create unrest in the city, Bakalia Police Station chief Pranab Chowdhury told bdnews24.com.

“They were found carrying provocative booklets and pamphlets. There are ‘Sathi’ level leaders of Chhatra Shibir among the arrestees.”
