The news of the robbery at the Premier Bank’s Badda Link Road branch on Monday, the last working day before Eid holidays, was revealed on Tuesday after a case was started at the Badda Police Station.

The robber took away the digital video recorder of the CCTV cameras at the bank while making off with Tk 2.3 million, police say.

Quoting officials of the bank, Badda Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam said the robber held nine people at gunpoint using a pistol to rob the bank.

“The robber first entered the manager’s room when transactions were under way. He then forced the officials into the vault at gunpoint before making off with Tk 2.3 million from the cash counter,” he said.

The law enforcers took two security guards of the bank to the police station for questioning, the OC said.

Md Shahjahan, an Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said they have launched a shadow investigation into the alleged robbery.

They were collecting footage from the CCTV cameras of the buildings in the area, he added.

No official of the bank could be reached for comments.
