Two killed in road accident in Gopalganj

Two men have died when the car carrying them fell into a ditch after colliding with a bus.

The bank official’s wife was injured in the accident that took place at Gopinathpur, Uttapara neighbourhood on Dhaka-Khulna Highway at around 6:00 am on Tuesday, said Inspector Hazrat Ali of Gopinathpur Police Outpost.

The deceased are SM Arafat Hassan Prince, 36, Senior Principal Officer at Motijheel Branch of Dhaka South Division of Rupali Bank and his cousin, architect Shimul, 40.

Prince hailed from Mulghar village at Fakirhar Upazila in Bagherhat while Shimul was from Sonadanga, Moynapota in Khulna.

The injured Meskat-E-Jahan Keka, 30 has been admitted to Gopalganj Central Hospital.

Prince was on his way to Bagherhat to celebrate Eid along with his wife and cousin when a bus operated by Sheba Green Line travelling the opposite direction collided with his car, said Inspector Hazrat Ali.

“The bus pushed the car about 90 metres which then fell into a ditch. The car got smashed with passengers inside and Prince and Shimul died on the spot.”

Firefighters and police recovered the bodies together after being informed, said Nur Mohammed Shikder, Station Officer in Gopalganj Fire Station.
