Two die in fire at Meghna Petroleum depot in Khulna

A fire broke out at a Meghna Petroleum depot in Khulna, leaving two people dead and injuring five others.

The incident was reported Monday from Khalishpur's North Kashipur area, said police.

Five firefighting units tamed the flames after an hour, according to the Fire Service.

The dead have been identified as Kamal Sharif, a staff of Meghna Petroleum depot, and Raju, a lorry assistant.

The injured were Mozammel Haque, 35, Abdul Wahab 45, Anwar Hossain 40, Anu 25, Ismail, 55, and Rubel, 26. They were taken to the Khulna Medical College Hospital.

“There was a sudden fire when a lorry was being loaded with oil from the depot,” said Sardar Mosharraf Hossain, chief of Khalishpur Police Station.

The fire also burnt three oil lorries.

The cause of the fire could not be known yet.
