The gunfight took place in the district’s BSCIC industrial area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the early hours of Monday, said Squadron Leader Shafayet Jamil Fahim, RAB-7 camp company director.

The dead have been identified as Mamun Morshed and Al-Amin.

Morshed, son of Abul Bashar, was a resident of Gazipur’s Tongi and Al-Amin, son of Yusuf Ali, lived in Dhaka’s Uttara.

They were the drug peddlers listed by the home ministry, according to the RAB.

Acting on a tip-off that three motorcycle riders with drugs were going to Dhaka from Chattogram, a RAB team set up a checkpoint on the Mohipal flyover and the BSCIC Industrial areas, said Fahim.

“At around 4am, RAB chased them while they were trying to run away. At one stage, the RAB personnel retaliated when they began firing their guns. Mamun Morshed and Al-Amin were found with bullet wounds at the scene after the ‘gunfight’,” he said.

He said doctors at Feni Sadar Hospital declared them dead.

A pistol, five bullets and 24,700 yaba pills were recovered from the scene.
