It will be approached by DSCC workers as a ‘challenge’, he said at a discussion programme in Dhaka on Sunday.

“We have removed the waste of sacrificial animals within 24 hours in the past three years. We expect the same this year and are looking for everyone’s support.”

At least 602 spots have been selected in the Dhaka South City Corporation for the Korbani sacrifices. The mayor has urged residents to make use of these designated spots.

“I request everyone to use the designated areas to speed up the cleaning process,” he said.

Bangladeshi Muslims will observe Eid-ul-Azha on Aug 22.

According to the DSCC, a total of 22,000 tonnes of waste were removed during Eid-ul-Azha last year.

About 90 percent of that waste was removed within 24 hours of Eid, officials said.
