Army medical corps member hacked to death in Jhenaidah

A member of Bangladesh’s military has been hacked to death by a group of men who cut down a tree and blocked the road in Jhenaidah’s Sadar Upazila.

The victim, 32-year-old Saiful Islam, was assigned to the Ghatail Cantonment Medical Corps in Tangail.

The incident occurred in the Haonghata field area of Bankira village around 9:30pm on Saturday night, said Jhenaidah Sadar police OC Emdadul Haque Sheikh.

He told bdnews24.com that Saiful Islam, his father-in-law Shamsul Islam and his brother Monirul Islam, who is in the Navy, were headed to the families’ home in Bankira from Badarganj Bazar on a motorcycle on Saturday night.

“They came to a halt when they found a tree blocking the road at the Haonghata field near the village. Saiful argued with a group of 10-12 men and they attacked him, hacking at his arms and neck with sharp weapons.”

He was taken to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital in critical condition and passed away around 10:30pm, the police official said.
