He was detained from Mirsharai Upazila’s Zorarganj Thana’s Baraiyarhat area on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway early on Saturday, according to RAB.

The detainee has been identified as Abul Bashar, a suspended assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Brahmanbaria district police line.

RAB-7 squadron leader Shafayet Jamil Fahim told bdnews24.com that Bashar was heading to Dhaka on a motorbike and came under arrest based on a tip. He was carrying the banned contraband in a bag.

“Bashar had served in the detective branch of police at Brahmanbaria district. Border Guards Bangladesh or BGB had detained him with yaba pills a few days ago. He was released afterwards,” RAB official Fahim said.

Approximately 30,000 yaba tablets were found on him, he added.
