After DMP News, the mouthpiece of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, published a report on the numbers, their spokesman Masudur Rahman confirmed the information to bdnews24.com on Wednesday.
Out of the 51 cases, eight are under the ICT Act. The number of people accused in these cases is 29 and 16 of them have been arrested, according to the DMP News.
They allegedly tried to change the course of the non-political student movement through social media posts.
Eden College student and quota reform protest leader Lutfunnahar Luma, and the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh or ULAB student Nazmus Sakib were arrested on Wednesday on similar charges.
The law enforcers arrested a number of university students after the senior students joined those of schools and colleges by the end of the road safety movement triggered by the deaths of two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College in a road crash on July 29.
Different organisations and political parties are demanding release of the students.
International organisations have also called for release of Drik Gallery’s founder Shahidul.
