Bangladesh condemns attack on US ambassador's vehicle

The Bangladesh government has strongly condemned the "unfortunate" attack on the official vehicle of the US Embassy in Dhaka carrying the ambassador.

The government is also committed to ensuring safety and security of all diplomatic corps in Bangladesh, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Thursday, about two weeks after Marcia Bernicat’s vehicle came under attack.

The vehicle carrying Bernicat encountered an "unfortunate" incident in the Mohammadpur area of Dhaka on Aug 4.

The police immediately rushed to the area and provided necessary protection ensuring that the ambassador and the personnel remain unharmed.

Subsequently, the US Embassy expressed its appreciation for the role played by Bangladesh police in ensuring her safety and security, the foreign ministry said.

The law-enforcement agency has been “actively engaged in investigating the incident”, according to the statement.

“Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate actions will be taken.”
