Luma was arrested from Khidrachaprar Char in Chauhali Upazila’s Enayetpur area on early Wednesday, said Abdur Razzak, chief of Belkuchi Police Station.

“A cybercrime team aided by the local police arrested her from a relative’s house under the ICT act. She was taken to Dhaka after the arrest.”

Luma is a student of Eden College. Luma’s father Abdul Quddus is a resident of Gopalganj’s Kashiani Upazila and her ancestors came from Khidrachaprar Char in Sirajganj, according to the police.

She is a joint-convenor of the Bangladesh Council to Protect General Students' Rights, a loose group of quota protesters.

On Aug 12, students seeking quota reforms threatened to launch a tougher movement if their demands are not met by Aug 31.

Their demands included immediate release of the activists from jail, punishment to attackers and a gazette notification on quota reforms.
