The incident occurred in the bus terminal area of the town on Friday night.

The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Mizanur Rahman, who worked in real estate.

The victim had business dealings with Amirul Islam, the owner of the Firoza Pharmacy near the Jhenaidah Shishu Hospital gate, said Jhenaidah Superintendent of Police Mizanur Rahman.

The pharmacy owner called the victim to the building and locals then heard a commotion around 9:30pm on Friday night, SP Rahman said, citing witnesses.

“They saw the owner Amirul Islam locking the door to the building and fleeing with a knife in his hand.”

The incident was reported to police, who broke the lock on the door and recovered the body of the victim Mizanur Rahman, the police official said.

According to police and relatives of the deceased, the murder was over money. But police are still investigating other possible causes for the murder, said SP Rahman.
