Senior Judicial Magistrate Zahidul Azad rejected her bail plea on Tuesday after hearing the case filed over her ‘derogatory remarks’ on freedom fighters and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The hearing on the bail plea started on Jul 2. The court fixed Jul 17 to pass the order on her bail.

On Jun 5, the District and Sessions Judge’s Court denied her bail mentioning it was ‘not maintainable’.

Khaleda at a discussion in Dhaka on Dec 21, 2015, raised questions about the actual number of Liberation War martyrs saying: “There’re controversies over how many were martyred in the war. There’re also many books and documents on the controversies.”

The former prime minister has been in jail since Feb 8 after a special court sentenced her to five years in prison for corruption in the Zia Orphanage Trust.

She has secured bail from the Supreme Court in the case, but is yet to be released as several other courts ordered her arrest in different cases.
