Muslim Chowdhury named comptroller and auditor general

The government has appointed Finance Secretary Md Muslim Chowdhury as the comptroller and auditor general.

The finance ministry issued a notice on the appointment on Sunday.

He is succeeding Masud Ahmed, who retired on Apr 27. Ahmed was made CAG in April 2013.

Chowdhury belongs to the Bangladesh Civil Service (Audit and Accounts Cadre) 1984 batch.

Prior to assuming the office of finance secretary in October last year, he had served as additional secretary, joint secretary and deputy secretary to the Finance Division.

He had held several positions under the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General, Controller General of Accounts and Office of the Controller General Defence Finance.

Born in Chattogram in 1959, Muslim Chowdhury graduated from the Chattogram University with accounting major and also received a post-graduate degree from the university.  

He also holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Finance and Accounting with distinction from the University of Birmingham.
