Two killed, 25 injured over clash in Moulvibazar 

Two men have been killed and at least 25 people injured over a power clash between two rival groups in Moulvibazar’s Sadar Upazila.

The clash took place at the upazila’s Khalilpur union between the villagers of Lamua and Purba Khalilpur in the early hours of Saturday, said Moulvibazar Police Superintendent Md Shahjalal.  
 
The dead have been identified as Shafikur Rahman, 25 and Abdul Malik, 50. 
 
Police have arrested four people over the clash. 
 
Sub Inspector Gias Uddin of Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station said, the villagers had a long-running dispute over the control of water bodies, fisheries and roads and were involved in a legal battle.  
 
“The rivals got into in a fight on Friday night leaving at least 8 to 10 people injured. Later police brought the situation under control.” 
 
“They were supposed to come to the police station to file complaints on Saturday morning. But instead  a fight broke out between the supporters of Lefas Mia from Lamua village and Mukid Mia from Purba Khalilpur, killing two people on the spot,” he said. 
 
Shafikur was a supporter of Lefas while Malik was a supporter of Mukid, the SI said. Additional police have been deployed in the area to prevent further violence.
